Tours
Here’s what our tour-goers are saying:
“Definitely exceeded my expectations on every level.”
“Your tour was wonderful. We enjoyed it very much.”
“The most relaxing day I’e had in a long time.”
“I’m your customer for life . . .”
The Fork and The Road, LLC, takes small groups of people out into the countryside to visit wonderful stores, restaurants, farms and boutiques – all with a food connection.
Finally!!! A few fall tours are now on the schedule. Apologies for the delay, but due to the increased number of charter tours this fall, it was tricky coming up with dates for our regular tours. A few more tours will be posted soon, but for now . . . . here we go . . .
On Thursday, September 29, we will be venturing out for a Laurel Highlands II tour. A bit different from our first Laurel Highlands tour, it’s another chance to view fall splendor and learn about herbs, berries, grilled pizz (yes, grilled) and more. Every time I drive out into this area, I find something new that I just must share with all of you. Sign up now, as this tour will fill up in a snap.
On Tuesday, October 4, The Fork and The Road will be going in a new direction. We’ll be eating and drinking our way down the historic National Road south of Pittsburgh. We’ll have some freshly roasted coffee, locally made wine and cheese, a delightful farm lunch and a nostalgic ending to the day. We will be leaving from the South Hills on this trip instead of our usual Monroeville spot, which is great for all of our customers that live south of Pittsburgh. Autumn in the mountains is a glorious time and this trip is a winner. Give us a call for more details before the bus is full.

Some past tours . . . . .
Hidden Culinary Gems of the Laurel Highlands
After lots of requests last year for a Saturday tour, last spring we are ventured out towards Ligonier on the firstl. We met artisan foodmakers, visited some real “characters” in the mountains, sipped local wine and enjoyed a sweet ending in a special hideaway. That’s not all, but you’ll have to sign up for the next Laurel Highlands tour this fall to get in on all of our hidden gems. It’s a relaxing day filled with delicious and unique treats.
In Our Own Backyard: Italian Secrets to the East
A hundred or so years ago, many Italian immigrants settled in the Greensburg and Latrobe areas. They worked in glass manufacturing, in coal mines and on the railroads. While most of these businesses no longer exist, the rich Italian heritage still survives. In April, we went to meet old school Italian business owners along with some younger folks who are at the cutting edge of Italian cuisine. Biscotti, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, gelati and more. Are you hungry yet? It was a great trip.
Secret Foodie Treasures of Bedford County
A reprise of the fall 2o1o tour, with a few tweaks, this tour took guests out to the east to the historic town of Bedford. Who knew that so many great culinary finds existed here? We did. We toured a winery and sampled chocolates, artisan breads and hard to find teas. We shopped in a Mennonite market that carries a wonderful selection of baking ingredients and the best bacon around. That’s not all, but we’re not telling all of our secrets! Another Bedford tour is planned for Spring of 2012.

A food adventure might be sleuthing out the juiciest June strawberries at a farm market, learning about gone but not forgotten area food treasures, working with a chef during a hands on cooking class or touring Pennsylvania’s artisan cheesemaker’s farms (and meeting a few cows along the way) . . or any of a zillion other fun ways to explore foodie things within a day's drive of Pittsburgh.
